Sesshoumaru skimmed his claws over the naked swell of her hip. Faintly, she stirred at the caress, but remained sleeping still.
Every inch of her skin bore his mark. Every place within her he had claimed with his flesh and his presence. She was his, and he felt the surety of his ownership of her in every breath that passed from her lips.
As he watched her sleep, he reveled in his supremacy.
None could stand against him. He had succeeded his great father in title and in strength. He had mastered a sword of unrivaled power. He had brought the most powerful priestess since Midoriko herself under his absolute control.
Kagome was beautiful and strong, and she pleased him far more than any other had before. Why, then, should he not have her as his consort? Sesshoumaru smirked. Who would even dare to question him?
When this matter with Naraku was settled, he would take her back with him to his western territories, and she would serve him without distraction. Just the thought of this made his blood burn in anticipation.
He had proven to her that her place was beneath him, and she had accepted this fact. Perhaps if his father had been able to keep himself and his woman similarly in check, he would still be alive to this day.
But the former Inu no Taishou had been too soft. He had given himself over to human sentiments and had lost everything in the end. The new Inu no Taishou would not make the same mistake.
His power and dominion would only increase. He would have his lands and his subjects. He would have his swords and his woman, and he would rule over them all with the same iron will he had always possessed. This level restraint, this cool detachment–this was what set him above his father Touga.
What set him above all.
She shivered at the flare of his indomitable youki, her long dark lashes trembling over the delicate skin of her cheeks. He remembered how those large expressive eyes of hers had gazed up at him in pure worship as he took her. It was a sight he would remember for all of time.
Submission did not come naturally to her, but she had done so very well under his direction. He had broken her in thoroughly, and her body would remember him. Next time would be easier for her to bear.
Though judging by her tightness even now around his testing fingers, perhaps not that much easier.
A slight furrow creased her brow, a small sound of discomfort escaping her as she shied away from his touch. Reluctantly, Sesshoumaru withdrew his hand, considering her as he cleaned his claws.
She is sore, he supposed, recalling how she had tearfully admitted as much to him afterward.
It was to be expected. She was unaccustomed to such acts, and even for a demoness, he was difficult to withstand. She was so diminutive and fragile…no amount of preparation on his part would have prevented this, though he had endeavored to.
His tail curved around her as he tucked her against his chest. She sighed, relaxing into his warmth. A bit of his own tension eased at the gesture, his claws resting against the satiny plane of her stomach.
He would wait for her to heal. With her constitution, it would not be long.
Soon, he knew, she would be eager for him again. In the past, he had distanced himself from the females he had bedded for this very reason. But as he had bequeathed his seed to her, in this, too, he treated her as the exception.
His lips quirked as he imagined what other clumsy attempts she would make to seduce him. He would humor her efforts–oblige them, even. He could be magnanimous where she was concerned.
He could be patient.

This level of alpha smugness is /astounding/ and yet in a way adorable because he’s so wrong and trusting of what Kagome had shown and said to him. A very ‘lordly’ misunderstanding that’ll probably bite him in the ass later and give everyone a few chapters worth of anguish over it, but still. This feels like a step in the right direction, or at least a turning point, for Sesshoumaru’s attitude towards his relation with Kagome?
The fact that he’s counter arguing himself on reasons why he’s /allowed/ to keep her kind of shows me how much more he wishes to have her around longer. (Instead of just using her ASAP and getting rid of his ‘accursed affliction’) Especially the points he makes against how ‘different’ their situation is compared to his father, and it had been the major source of his prior resistance. It almost seems like they disrupt each other’s logical facilities in different ways. While Kagome seems shaken by the force of his physical and beastial nature, Sesshoumaru has been making attempts to turn his previously bitter thoughts to something more positive about their arrangement. Too bad the change is too invisible to Kagome.
It’s also probably agonizingly slow in emotional development (we’re in chapter 80+ Sesshoumaru!!!!!), but long living creatures tend to be slower in change…is what I imagine. Anyhow, love it as always!! Can’t wait to see how quickly Kagome confuses him!
(Also, HA, so he WAS aware of the seduction attempts and dare I say, enjoyed them?! Too bad Sesshy. You need to throw the drowning girl a bone if you want more instead of liking it one-sidedly!)

i think he is rationalizing (is that the english word for looking for arguments for what one feels? usually full of bs?). if he really thought of kagome only as property, tessaiga would burn his ass off. protecting property isnt the same as protecting the ones we care about – i think that the sword would make this difference. he isnt ready yet to admit to himself (or even be concious) his feelings, which anyway, they are too new and still have to grow. funny how he reacts reacts to her phisically – not only in a lustful way, but he softens and relax when he pulls her close. that has to mean something, why would he relax with a consort? and that not even mentioning his will to protect her, and how he admitted it to her…
anyway, im really into this slowburn, its totally IC for him. im so ready for more sexual tension and drama.
i loved the explicit chapters, and i loved this last bit where he acknowledges her silly seducing attempts – does it include the thing that the wolfes pulled off? lol.

He is rationalizing and lying to himself. It’s easy to see. But, I’m not feeling particularly like gloating over his obvious lack of emotional intelligence as it’s going to cause hime to hurt Kagome a lot.
I just hope for 2 things at this point, I hope she humbles him thoroughly and defies him at every instant he tries to force her “submission” without giving her anything in return.
And, when he does realize how much he’s hurt her and how much of an asshole he’s been, I want to see some thorough grovelling and sincere apologies/change of behaviour.
I used to encounter a lot of male characters like this when I read regular mainstream het romances. They drove me nits and I hated how it was portrayed as romantic and the women always forgave with a minimum of resistance even though the men had treated them to what was essentially emotional abuse.
Please don’t fall into that trope here. Kagome already dealt with that crap from Inu Yasha (both in cannon and in this story). She deserves to be in a non abusive relationship.
I like Sesshoumaru’s character and I agree that this attitude is very in character for him, but I hope you make him learn and grow to understand that love is not weakness. He doesn’t deserve Kagome otherwise.

The last chapter is both sexy and angsty. I want to give Kagome a hug.
As for Sesshoumaru, you know, I almost fall out of love with him. Ah, males.
I know he is not familiar with the notion of love. And he is entering a new stage of denial/avoidance. But this is the Sesshoumaru who chose to protect Kagome and couldn’t deny her anything. I expected him to be better.
And no, I don’t think Kagome will attempt to seduce him in the near future. He probably won’t have the chance of getting laid for some time.
Itching to analysis the development of their relationships. But i probably won’t have time to re-read and write a lengthy review until next month.
