Creating this drabble series to house some interconnected, post-canon(ish) one-shots. Various pairings, ratings, POVs and themes, but this’ll be a lighthearted romp for the most part <3
Part 1 – Morning Woes
Yawning loudly, Wei Wuxian stretched as he walked, trying to work out a stubborn kink in his neck without a care for how sloppy he looked. What the general public thought of him had never been of much concern. At this hellishly early hour, none of the groggy shop owners or patrons seemed to be paying much attention anyway, too busy stifling yawns themselves.
His cute little pupils, however…
Wei Wuxian smirked. Now here he found himself caring—no opportunity to tease them was ever too small to pass up.
The kink in his neck took him all of about two seconds to unwind. But feeling at least one of the Lan Sect juniors’ disapproving stares boring into his back, he still continued to contort himself grotesquely afterwards and moan with lewd exaggeration. He was making such a shameful show of it as they strolled down the street that passersby were actually beginning to shoot them dirty looks.
“Senior Wei, you’re embarrassing us,” Lan Jingyi muttered. “Won’t you stop already?”
“It’s possible no one will serve us breakfast,” Lan Sizhui said tactfully, making Wei Wuxian pause for a moment.
A clever approach, A-Yuan! Wei Wuxian thought, beaming inwardly with pride. Truly, Lan Sizhui was shaping up to be a fine strategist. But the tactic was wielded in vain; unfortunately for the young disciples, Wei Wuxian’s appetite for pranks was even greater than his appetite for food. Though his own stomach growled mercilessly, he kept on being ridiculous for another few blocks, and even Lan Sizhui’s gentle smiles and polite excuses couldn’t find them a table at any of the restaurants they passed.
“Hanguang-Jun!” Lan Jingyi wailed in desperate appeal, many of the others taking up the cry as well.
Grinning like a maniac, Wei Wuxian suppressed a roaring laugh. Poor little ones, he thought, even as tears of mirth squeezed from the corners of his squinting eyes. Those of the Lan Sect operated on such a strict schedule that if the timing was even a bit off, for meals or rest or anything else, they started to lose their heads—especially if there was no good reason for it.
Lan Wangji, though a devout adherent to his sect’s core principles, was not so constrained. He’d been even more stuffy than these young ones at the same age, to be sure. But now he glided alongside Wei Wuxian without the slightest ruffled feather—a wise brother swan amidst these squawking little chicks—taking his husband’s bizarre antics in patient stride.
But soft-hearted as Lan Wangji was, he could only ignore those chirping pleas for so long.
“Wei Ying,” he said calmly, and knowing words alone wouldn’t be enough, he took Wei Wuxian by the waist and deftly scooped him up in those powerful arms.
Wei Wuxian flushed, smiling shamelessly as he wriggled in Lan Wangji’s hold and toyed with his forehead ribbon. “Oh, Lan Zhan…it’s because of you I’m so achy, after all. How many positions did you put me through last night? So demanding…”
This was all said flirtatiously, of course. But it also wasn’t untrue. Lan Wangji’s pale eyes shone with amorous light, as Wei Wuxian rubbed the trailing end of the ribbon against his lips. Behind them, a distinct chill of unease seemed to descend over the poor starving disciples. Somehow, Hanguang-Jun’s ‘assistance’ had only resulted in an even more sordid spectacle.
At the sight, the remaining shop owners not only denied them service, but bolted the doors and shuttered the windows ahead of them.
