“Tessaiga,” Kagome muttered.
“Give me the sword,” Hirokin said, “and I will do as you wish.”
The miko advanced a heated step, her reiki searing through the encroaching ice. “Give you Tessaiga—so that you can destroy it? So that you can steal its powers and use them to rebel against Sesshoumaru?”
Hirokin’s blue eyes flicked to the melted ice, before returning coolly to her. “…What I do with the fang once given is none of your concern.”
Kagome shook her head, her voice lowering to a deadly murmur. “See, that’s where you’re wrong…”
With a toss of her wrist she brought her bow upright and slammed it back down blazing into the rock. The ice sheet shattered like frosted glass. Hirokin grimaced as his bare feet struck the ground.
“My husband’s birthright will always be my concern.” Before he could turn and flee, Kagome’s reiki flared up behind him, walling him off as he twisted around. “As if I’d ever hand Tessaiga over to the likes of you.”
Hirokin straightened toward her with a curt little smile, though the look in his eyes was hunted. “You have a talent for projection, Kagome-sama. But this sort of display is unwarranted. You have made your position clear enough.”
“No,” Kagome said, wiping blood from her mouth as she stalked toward him. “I don’t think I have.”
With a slash of her bow, her reiki bowled him over from behind in a gleaming wave. His silk robes fluttered as she sent him sprawling face-first to the ground. Curling the fingers of her free hand, Kagome closed her aura around him in a vise of rose-white light. Pinned against the ground like a moth beneath a cat’s paw, Hirokin grit his teeth. The serrated edges of his fangs glowed blue as his body began to steam.
“This soul in me is older than the hills,” Kagome said as she drew to a stop just before him, peering down. “Even if I die, I’ll continue to live on—but you? Youkai souls don’t reincarnate; you’ve only got this one measly shot. How precious is your life to you, Prince Hirokin?” Nocking an arrow, she brought its flaming point between his eyes. “You’ll do what I say, or I’ll take off your head like the viper you are. You talk about favors, so here’s one for you: you’ll keep doing what I say for as I long as I tell you, and maybe I won’t tell Sesshoumaru how you schemed to betray him.” Kagome’s gaze narrowed as she stoked the point afresh. “Just maybe.”
Hirokin glared up at her, transfigured for a fraught, breathless moment—before his face split into a manic grin and he laughed without restraint.

Kagome is such a bad bitch. I LOVE when she has these moments! Such power. When she puts other powerful characters in their place even if just for a moment. Although we should’ve expected Hirokin’s crazy ass to laugh in the face of death. He really is the level of petty-bitch we all strive to be.
“He really is the level of petty-bitch we all strive to be.” XDDD so true
Badass Kagome moments are the best! So glad you enjoyed this scene, Blackberry!! <3
Yessss Kagome clap 👏🏻 at 👏🏻 him 👏🏻 fuck em up
😁💕💕
She’s finally passed the test. What was it Hirokin said to Sesshoumaru when he first witnessed Kagome tame his beast? “Intrigued but not convinced?” Perhaps Kagome reaching out and grasping power and dominion has finally convinced him. Hirokin surely enjoys serving strong, dominant rulers and Kagome seems on the verge of ascending beyond the level of village priestess in her obsession with keeping and controlling Edo.
I loved this chapter—so exciting and momentous. Great to see Kirkouk put in his slimy place at last. I never thought I would look forward to a Monday but your writing makes the weekdays worth it 😊
😉 😉
So glad you enjoyed this chapter, Alex!! And so happy I could help brighten your Monday – Mondays really are just the worst XD
<3
Yesss! She’s such a badass <3<3
“This soul in me is older than the hills,” was SUCH a great line. With how superior demons are about their lifespans compared to humans, its such an awesome take to see her guffaw and mock his measly demon existence. It really got me thinking about whether the demons realize this about themselves and are trying to gaslight humanity into believing its the other way around.
It brought two of life's most important lessons to mind: 1)Consider the source, and 2)Confidence gets you far.
great work!
Yay thanks, susie! So glad you liked that line!! 🙂
Kagome putting demons in their place (especially Sess lol) ranks among my all-time fav canon moments! And agree 100% on the two lessons – maybe one day I’ll remember them when I need ’em 😭
Thanks so much for sharing! <3
Yesssss Kagome!! Make him bow to you! As much as I love when her humility shows, I LIVE when Kagome goes full dominant badass. I also kind of agree with Alex; maybe all of this was one big test? Hirokin seems like the type to create a disaster, then sit on his icy throne and watch the world burn. Literally lol.
Whew! I’m so excited to see what happens next. Nothing good ever comes from an antagonist manic laughing. Thanks for the amazing update ~
“Nothing good ever comes from an antagonist manic laughing.” Lol ain’t that the truth! XD
So glad you enjoyed this chapter, Lee! Thanks so much <3 <3 <3
Today was such a shit day for me. Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. But reading this made me feel just a bit better.
Looking forward to the rest of the story and seeing more badass Kagome 😎 She is in her element
Also wanted to ask if thus lovely story coming to an end soon-ish, or do we get to see more updates for a while yet longer? I have to mentally prepare myself for withdrawal 😂😢😭
Oh no, Mori, I’m sorry you had such a rough day 😢
Glad you’re enjoying badass!Kagome 🙂 As for the story coming to end, we’re approaching the final arc – but I think realistically it’ll be next year before Control is finally complete, so we have some chapters left to go 😉
Hope tomorrow treats you better! Thanks so much for sharing <3 <3 <3
