“Oh,” Kagome said, faltering.
At her bereft expression, Inuyasha’s ears went flat. Thunderously, he glowered.
“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me.”
“Inuyasha—”
“You’re tellin’ me after all this time,” he exploded, gnashing his fangs in Kagome’s face so hard she winced, “after all this time, he’s still givin’ you and Shin the slip? Seven fucking years.” Clutching a clawed hand to Tessaiga, he stormed off toward the west in a blind, seething rage. “That lowdown, worthless, cowardly selfish son of a bitch—”
“No!” Kagome said, running after him and catching him by the arm. “No, Inuyasha, it isn’t like that! It isn’t like that at all. Just calm down—just calm down for a second, and let me explain…”
Inuyasha rounded upon her in furious disbelief. Steam was practically boiling out of his ears, he was so incensed, but it was a testament to his maturity over the years that he kept his temper enough in check to hear her out.
Kagome explained as quickly as she could her long years of fruitless searching, canvassing the four corners of Japan for Sesshoumaru with no luck, and with nothing new to go on. Then she told him what had happened only now, after seven luckless years. She recounted to him the sparse details of the dream-vision she’d just had—of Seshoumaru, trapped and frozen in a remote, subterranean prison.
“I know it may sound hard to believe, but what I saw in that dream was real. In my bones, I know that it was,” Kagome said, searching Inuyasha’s eyes, which were no longer murderous, but still darkly troubled. “You believe me, don’t you?”
“Yeah,” he said slowly, grudgingly, “I believe you.”
Kagome’s shoulders relaxed a little. “…So now Shin and I have to find him and revive him,” she said, taking a breath. “Then, we can go from there.”
“It’s not much to go on,” Inuyasha muttered, bringing his furled claws to his chin. “But crazy as it sounds, what you’re saying kinda makes sense. I searched high and low for him myself, years ago, right after—well, you know—and I couldn’t find a trace of him anywhere. His scent trail went dead just outside of Edo, and I couldn’t pick it up again no matter where I searched. I raided all his haunts I knew of—bullied Myouga and others into telling me the ones that I didn’t. But still, no dice.” Inuyasha’s mirrored eyes gleamed, reflective. “Him being stranded deep underground would explain it all, though.”
Kagome nodded weakly. “That’s what I’m afraid of—that all this time, he’s been stuck like that. That he’ll be stuck like that forever unless we can get to him, and help him.”
Inuyasha let out a terse breath, turning away from her again. “I’m still mad as hell at him for this. No matter what, he left the two of you hanging out to dry all this time. It ain’t right, and by gods, he’s gonna answer for it.” Inuyasha’s claws cracked again as they curled at his side. “If I’d known,” he said with a pained grimace, “if I’d had any idea the two of you were out there, all on your own—”
Kagome touched a hand to his white-knuckled fist. “That’s why Shin and I kept away, in part. I wanted you to be free to live your own life, and I didn’t want you to worry about us. We’ve been fine on our own. You have to admit,” she added a touch wryly, “the two of us aren’t exactly defenseless.”
“I know,” he grit out, ears dipping, “but still. A boy ought to have a father, or a man around, at least.”
“He has a father,” Kagome said firmly. “His father is Sesshoumaru, and they’ll be together again soon.”
And as she said it, she believed it.

CHAR!!! you bless us with another update I’m so happy. I love the character development of them both here, it shows so much that they have grown. Beautifully done!!
Wow…I hope Inuyasha kicks Sesshoumaru’s butt for leaving in the first place.
“He has a father,” Kagome said firmly. “His father is Sesshoumaru, and they’ll be together again soon.”
YESSSS MA’M 👏 👏 👏
As much as I love Inuyasha (from the show at least lol), you’re not slipping back in now!!! It took us forever to get rid of you 😂
Blesssssed be two updates so close together!! 💅👏 Living for this new mature (slightly more mature) Inuyasha! Can’t wait to see what happens next!
Double update 😍
Thank youuuuu!
Looking forward to them excavating daddy out of the dirt and rubble. How the HELL he got there in the first place is still a mystery, but I bet it was a rough fight.
“I know,” he grit out, ears dipping, “but still. A boy ought to have a father, or a man around, at least.”

So will Inuyasha be joining them on this search? 👀 Being his real dad or not it would still be good for Inuyasha to reconnect with Shin, as his uncle… I don’t want their bond to break. They’re still pack 🥺 And Shin would benefit from talking to an adult inuyoukai for the first time, especially a hanyou like him. Shin must have a lot of questions.
Yes!!!! I love seeing updates!!!
Sesshoumaru’s haunts…? 👀
Hehe, I can’t help but picture Inuyasha busting in parlours and teahouses where all the rich and noble daiyoukai lords hang out and shaking them down for information 😂
Inuyasha should definitely join the search. The brothers got some unresolved asskicking and Inuyasha’s been itching to deliver it for seven years. They can’t move forward until they confront each other.
I love this update! Acquiring a spartan wife and four kids did Inuyasha a good turn. He’s much wiser now, and hopefully he stayed away from the bottle and the mercenary work.
Kagome and Shin aren’t defenseless but something tells me there’s more to it than that. I remember there were bells chiming at one point when Kagome was at the waycastle with Sesshoumaru, and it’s got me feeling that someone must be watching Kagome and Shin for a long, long time now.
Actually, I think there’re multiple eyes on her constantly and their presence is just heavier now that one of them made itself known. There was Myouga and Toutousai, the ghostly presences in the waycastle, Inukimi… maybe there are others. These two would naturally be a hot topic in the youkai world.
i like her confidence but i’d encourage kagome to sharpen her arrows too. an eye for an eye and she should repay this transgression against her mate in full 😈
plus i bet the corpse of the enemy who trapped him like this would be a fabulous proposal gift in inuyoukai culture 💍✨️
Yessss Kagome go find your man! I love that she has more faith in Sesshoumaru after her vision. She’s going on this journey with determination vs complete trepidation.
Yooo two Pact updates this week is such a treat, thank you!!!
Looking forward to this search and rescue operation!
Inuyasha’s so strong 🥲 That he wants Sesshoumaru to take responsibility for Kagome and Shin.
I’m crying. Sess likely thinks he’ll be stuck this way forever too, heartbroken and alone, with his mate having chosen his brother in the end, never to see Kagome, Shin or Rin again.
I can’t. SAVE HIM QUICKLY KAGOME YOU’RE HIS ONLY HOPE 😭😭😭😭💦
“I know,” he grit out, ears dipping, “but still. A boy ought to have a father, or a man around, at least.”

Ohhh but ain’t this the truth though? 😭 It’s never more important for single parents to take on both the father and mother roles with an iron hand in the absence of the other, especially when you’re usually the softer-natured one. I learned this the hard way through my aunt and uncle. My uncle was usually the firmer hand in the family, but when he died my aunt (who is soft-spoken and timid) had a hellish time controlling her kids. These little brats knew early on that she couldn’t intimidate them so they went off the RAILS – screaming their lungs out at her, throwing hard objects at her, biting and scratching anyone who tried to drag them to school, it was so tough to watch. She had two boys, one girl toddler, and so many bruises. My grandparents and I tried to help where we can but man, that was a dark time. Things only started getting better when my aunt moved closer to her maternal family (who had many young men these unruly boys didn’t dare cross).
Not to project my personal experience here with little kids turning into little terrors but I must be traumatized cuz this line hit me deep. Kagome’s lucky that Shin’s an angel 😭👏💕
