SessKag Series: The Pact, Part 136

This entry is part 136 of 177 in the series The Pact [Ongoing]

At the wooded outskirts of Edo, Sesshoumaru touched down. As the buoyant cloud of youki vanished softly from beneath her feet, Kagome turned toward him with Shin in her arms. She pressed a hand to Sesshoumaru’s armored chest.

Gazing up at him, she said, “Wait here for me, okay?”

Sesshoumaru’s golden eyes strayed beyond her, toward the distant village which only he could see. He inclined his head slightly into the westward breeze, as if to scent or to listen for some faint note it carried. Perhaps both. As he did so, his fey features features fell into shadow.

“No,” he said to her. “Even if my pride could allow it, I’d not leave you to face my brother alone. You have never been alone in this.”

“Sesshoumaru, please. I understand that it’s true, to an extent, that you share some responsibility for what we’ve done. But this pact was my idea. I approached you. I betrayed him. Ultimately, the blame lies with me, and so he should hear it from me. Besides,” she said, frowning heavily, “think of Inuyasha’s pride. The wound I’m about to deal him is bad enough. You being there would just be insult to injury, don’t you think?” As Sesshoumaru mulled this over in silence, Kagome reached up and touched his cool stony cheek. “Will you trust me?”

His golden gaze flicked down to hers. After a moment, he nodded.

Kagome mustered a smile and stepped back. She saw Sesshoumaru’s gaze travel to Shin, not out of concern, she noted, but out of consideration. Despite Shin being in his human form, a moment of unspoken understanding seemed to pass between them as they held one another’s eye, blue for gold.

Father to son.

Why Kagome sensed a spirit of camaraderie—commission, even—in that shared glance of theirs, she couldn’t say. Maybe she just didn’t want to contemplate the uncomfortable reality of it—her infant son aiding her in the event of a crisis. At least as long as it took for reinforcements to arrive, anyway.

With effort, Kagome pushed these fears aside. She trusted in the goodness of Inuyasha’s heart, above all others. Hers and Sesshoumaru’s not exempted.

As she began to turn, Sesshoumaru clasped her trailing hand to his lips. Kagome felt the imprint of that kiss sear into the scar at the base of her neck, into her flesh and bones. Into her very soul. Her breath caught in her chest as she pulled away from him and continued on toward Edo. Alone, yet not alone.

The trees of Inuyasha’s Forest thinned before her. As the thatched-roofed huts of the village rose into view over the slopes of those gently rolling hills, her eyes fell to the baby nuzzling at her breast. He looked to her with eyes as wide and deep and blue as the sea to the east beyond them. Eyes as vast with unconditional love for her as she for him.

Kagome hugged Shin close to her and pressed a kiss to his sweet, smooth little brow.

  1. “You have never been alone in this” 🥹❤️‍🩹

WHEN I TELL YA, I’ve been checking multiple times day everyday for this… I’m unhealthily hooked to this story. Thank you for the update! And congrats on getting your draft completed 😇

    1. Thanks so much, bella! Feels great to get the draft for novel 2 done at last – 75k words! Now if only I didn’t have to edit it lol

  2. So, Kagome has made her choice.

Good news for us KagXSess fans, bad news for InuYasha. 👀

    Great chapter.

    💛

  3. An update aaaaaaa I’m so happy 😭

With effort, Kagome pushed these fears aside. She trusted in the goodness of Inuyasha’s heart, above all others. Hers and Sesshoumaru’s not exempted.

😬 I mean deceiving him about his son is PRETTY intense…

Oooh this is gonna hurt > <

    1. Yeahh it really could go so many different ways…

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, oskorreia!! Hope you enjoy how things go down <3

  4. I have a feeling Inuyasha is about to get clapped by an infant 😭

I love that Sess and Shin have their weird father-son telepathy thing XD That’s bound to be so exasperating to deal with once Shin’s more grown up. Got in trouble? Sending bluetooth to father.

    1. “Sending bluetooth to father.” – ahahaha I love it!

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, Kova! Hope you enjoy the next chapter!! <3

  5. Inuyasha’s got some serious issues against Sess in this story so I can’t wait to see how this’ll go.

The vibes are too quiet 👀 What is Sess sensing over there in the village that she’s about to find out?

  6. Eeeeeekkkkkkk!!!! Thank you so much. I’ve been praying for an update. This scene is so sweet and loving. I really hope this is it and she confesses. I also really hope there’s a bit of a confrontation – daddy coming to defend them would be so HOT!!!!
    Great writing!!!

    1. Thank you so much, Britt! So glad you enjoyed this update & the tender moments in the scene <3

    1. “*insert meme* Do not blow this for us. 👉🐶” – hahaha love it!!

      Thanks for sharing, friend!! <3

  8. Yes! An update! But I need more!! I’m constantly checking this for updates!

    I’m obsessed!

  9. How are they still so lovey right on the cusp of a major disaster? 🥺❤️

Her fairytale romance took an unexpected turn but it’s still not dead. Even if the whole village turns on her in the fallout, she’ll still have Sess and Shin and that’s all she needs.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on the scene, Inupapa!! Hope you enjoy how things go down from here…! <3
