AKA, The Great Control Revision Project – Sounds more daunting than it is (I hope), but since Control took so many years to complete, and my writing style inevitably changed (for the better?) along the way, I’m going to be slowly but surely making minor revisions to the earlier parts of the side-stories, the Control main story, and The Rebel Anthology to make them more stylistically consistent with the later parts.

Nothing plot-related will be changed, of course. These revisions will mostly just amount to syntax-tweaking. My present goal as a fiction writer is to be more succinct and impactful by keeping down on how much I spam adverbs, string together too many phrases into a single sentence, abuse dialogue tags, etc. My prose will always be ‘purple’ because I just can’t help myself, but I’d like to write in an overall punchier style. Makes for better storytelling, imo.

While I’m at it, I figured I might as well go ahead and cross-post the revised content to Ao3 (Control is already there, but nothing else). There are a couple of advantages to this: 1) it’ll give me an overall series word count, which is difficult to determine at present (and I’m a numbers fiend) 2) it’ll allow me to group the Control side-stories together into a single collection for the first time (which the free version of my blog series plug-in doesn’t allow) and 3) it’ll serve as an additional back-up point for the stories, which is always nice.

Maybe even a few new folks on Ao3 will enjoy the side-stories there, though I feel like most folks who are interested venture on over to the blog XD But who knows. To be honest, I’m a little reluctant to cross-post to Ao3 because of the whininess and negativity I’ve experienced there recently, and y’all know the Control side-stories can get pretty damn dark…

But whatever. It is what it is. As always, my blog will remain the first and best source for all my latest fic writing 🙂 I’m sure it will be quite some months at the very least before I even start posting any Rebel Anthology stuff over there on Ao3.

*I’m still deliberating whether to separate out the Seeds of Rebellion epilogue, or update Control to include it…I see pros and cons to both. Although it’s an epilogue, I do like where the main story ends, and I also like the idea of keeping all the side-story tie-ins totally separate. With Control, I wanted to see if I could write a story that reads one way by itself, and reads an entirely different way as part of a larger universe. So right now I’m leaning towards separate epilogue, but pleeeenty of time to mull it over lol

I still think the Control universe tales read best in blog format, and blog order. But hopefully it’ll be convenient at least to have them all archived under the Chaos Chronicles umbrella, and to finally have Aprocrypha of the Storm as a central repository for the side-stories.

While all my fics have been a labor of love, it’s safe to say that Control and its spinoffs have been my most beloved endeavor. I consider these tales my IY magnum opus, and am looking forward to polishing up the old and forging ahead with the new 🙂
