Kagome’s face flamed as she shoved back from him.
“I didn’t put on anything ‘for you’—if I want to dress sexy in my own house, that’s my right. And if you grab at me like that again I’m going to punch a burning hole through your cheek. Now get down,” she spoke through gritted teeth as his claws slammed to the floor, “and stay down.”
Back bowed beneath the invisible weight of her spell, Sesshoumaru stared up at her, his eyes glinting ferally through the fringe of his bangs. His expression was shadowed, his broad chest and shoulders graven and sheening with strain. His breathing and aura were both so eerily subdued that he seemed more like a statue than a living being.
The world’s most menacing statue…
Kagome swallowed dryly, gave herself a little inward shake. Here he was, bowed and naked on her floor, and she was the one feeling wary? It was ridiculous, but still she struggled to shake the feeling.
“You can sit there radiating hostility at me all you want, but you only have yourself to blame,” she said testily, setting her hands on her hips. “What did you think, that just because you managed to coerce me last night it’s open season between us now? Well I’ve got news for you, Sesshoumaru: the party’s over. I only have nine years left to live, and I don’t intend to spend them fucking around with you.”
The faintest line formed between his brows. “What the hell are you going on about now?”
“I met a fortune teller today,” Kagome replied archly, pleased that she’d gotten a rise out of him. “A greedy old crone, but she struck me as the real deal.”
Sesshoumaru chuckled, slight and inscrutable. His joints cracked as he straightened with a sinuous flex.
“If you wish to know what the future holds for you, Kagome, I will tell you.”
The miko’s tone went flat. “I think I’m good.” Holding her robe shut against him, she glanced away. “You can stop all that stretching now. Get up, get dressed, and get out of here. I’ve made my point with you.”
For a while there was only quiet. Kagome worried at her lower lip. She could feel his preternatural gaze boring into her. Despite her warning, she was half-bracing herself for some sort of assault, spiritual or otherwise. But instead it was the tracing of his claws along the back of her hand that made her tense, the skim of them against her palm that made her start as if from electric shock, her furled fingers flinching regrettably toward his.
Only he could make the barest of touches feel like the keenest violation. Kagome jerked her hand away. Yet his voice pursued her.
“Is that truly all you want with me?”
Slowly, Kagome turned back toward him, her eyes full of wrath. “Since when do you care what I want?”
Sesshoumaru’s furtive look made her blood run hot and cold all at once. “If I didn’t care what you wanted, things would have gone quite differently between us.”
Kagome’s brow twitched. “Is that right?”
“It is,” he said, his keen mirrored eyes scoring over her. “I have the size of you.”
“What does that even mean?” Kagome bit out, exasperated. “Why don’t you tell me plainly, since you seem to know everything? Go on and tell me, Sesshoumaru—you tell me who I am.”
Sesshoumaru’s gaze met hers levelly, and there was nothing mocking in it. “You are a stubborn, violent woman, ruled by passion.”
Kagome stared at him, his words hitting her like a club. She didn’t realize she was gaping until she went to bite at her lip again. But before she could counter, he was speaking once more.
“That much I ascertained about you from the start,” he said, in a tone so curt and matter-of-fact it unnerved her distinctly. “The way you charged heedless into battles not your own, the way you bullied those around you and dug in your heels against opponents far stronger than yourself.” It was as if he were recounting some cold, internal cataloguing he’d done of her—but really, was that surprising? They had been enemies once, after all. “At first I thought you a lunatic, or simply a fool.” As Kagome glowered, he resumed, “But later I realized that you just cannot help yourself.” Sharply, Sesshoumaru smiled up at her. “There is a powerful frenzy in you, Kagome.”

I know I’m just fooling myself thinking there might be a “happy” ending for these two, that they’ll be together at the end of all this, but I can’t help myself. I want to see Sesshomaru win; I want her to rule alongside him. They’re so twisted and perfect for each other in this context and—God, I hope he kills Ren. I really, really hope he kills Ren. And I hope Kagome gives in to him.
Can’t wait to read more 🙂
“They’re so twisted and perfect for each other in this context ” – ahhh music to my ears!! haha 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing, M!! <3 <3 <3
Ugh Kagome drives me crazy sometimes (though I am still rooting for her deep down). Sesshoumaru has shown her how he truly feels a million times and she stubbornly refuses to see it. I can only imagine what he might have revealed if she had let him tell her her future. I imagine it is inextricable from his own, which from a demon as undemonstrative as Sesshoumaru should say a lot. He sees her so clearly—and she sees him too, when she lets herself. He needs to get through to her before she throws herself at one of her many suitors out of spite. Kagome is right about one thing, anyway—they don’t have time for all this fucking around.
Hahaha well said, Alex!! I can’t help but root for Kagome too, crazy as she is XD
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this scene!! I know the updates have been sluggish…but more coming soon <3 <3 <3
A powerful frenzy indeed ready to put you on a leash Sesshoumaru. She wants to be dominated and yet in control. I love it ❤️
Yay thank you, Blackberry!! So glad you’re enjoying the power dynamics 😉
<3 <3 <3
I am so obsessed with this story!!!! I love your writing style and how much absolute justice you do for the charecters. So excited for the next update!
Thank you so much!! So thrilled you’re enjoying the story – more to come soon….!! <3 <3 <3
Ok so…. Because I fell behind…
Chp. 131: Oh dayum, Kagome! That’s just plain MEAN! LOL!
Chp. 132: WTF is it with Kanako? The girl is either the most dim-witted individual of all time, or she’s a downright GENIUS at causing chaos where none was necessary.
Chp. 133: I’ve re-gained a good amount of respect for Kagome in this chapter. Not that I really lost it, but I truly questioned her decisions. First, I like that she told Rin that life isn’t all romance and flowers with men. Rin needed her love bubble popped, even though we all wish that reality could be spared from all women. Second, I’m glad she finally came forward about what exactly she’d done with Kohaku. It was the responsible, ADULT, thing to do. Made all the moreso because she did it, not to clear her conscience but, to give Rin the tools she needed to make her own informed decision about the men in her life.
Chp. 134: Oh shit.
Chp. 135: Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh shit!!! Whoooop whoooop! #CallTheFireDept!! #WheresTheWater? #FanningMyself
136: So weird how patient Sesshomaru is with her, given his personality. Lol. Dear YOU, please post more as soon as possible because your stories are the stuff of addicts. Lol ❤❤❤
Hey Carlyn thanks so much!! So enjoyed reading your reactions to the past few chapters <3 <3 <3
Love hearing your thoughts on Kagome disclosing all that info to Rin! Twisted as it may be, in Kagome's mind she was just trying to arm Rin with some of her own hard-earned wisdom D: the road to hell is paved with good intentions, as they say...!
Haha - anyway, thanks again for sharing - and for the support!! <3
So, I had to come back a read this again. Does he know what her life span will be because the mating is still in effect, or does he believe he’s that powerful, that much in control. Okay, looks like I might have answered my own question.
lol! <3 😉 <3
